Pretty much everyone I know who lives in Kansas, has been to the Kansas Underground Salt Museum in Hutchinson at least once. Readers in other states may not be aware that it is one of Kansas most popular new tourist attractions.  Furthermore, it’s one of the only salt museums in the world and the only one in the Western Hemisphere!  SO, you have to see it at least once.

What makes it so interesting is the fact that it’s 600 feet straight down a really fast, dark elevator shaft.  When your tour guide gets you into the subterranean museum you feel like you’ve entered another world.  Well, actually you have!  It’s kind of like being in a cave…..without the stalactites and bats.  I won’t spoil the experience with an excessively detailed description, but trust me – you’ll love it!  It really is one of the more unique experiences you can have in Kansas.

What most folks don’t know – even many native Kansans, is that most of Hollywood’s greatest films are stored in these very salt mines due to their consistent temperature and humidity.  Movie buffs have to visit this just to see the many props, costumes and items from their favorite films!  It’s hard to describe the experience but it is a blast!
