Mörkrost – Na-Nu, Na-Nu
“Mork calling Orson. Come in Orson. This is Mork from Ork….my roast is ready, shozbot!” (I’ll dispense with the Mork & Mindy jokes after this post.) As some of you already know, the Mörkrost has been completed. In honor of the blacksmith shop founders I’ve decided to call it the Holmberg & Johnson Swedish Blend, Mörkrost Dark Kaffe.
So how does it taste? In the Swedish tradition it is a dark roast (that’s what mörkrost means) blended coffee. Traditionally in the case of Löfbergs Lila, Zoegas or Arvid Nordquist, they use high quality, premium Arabica beans with very distinctive flavor characteristics. I’ve tried to follow this tradition and am pleased with the results.
Having said that, this is what I call a polarizing coffee. I think Mörkrosts are like that because their unique flavors aren’t common in a “typical” mainsteam blend. In other words, for coffee drinkers who prefer a traditional coffee flavor, this might not suit their palate. However, if you prefer things that are a little more exotic you might like this one!
I’ll be delivering a case to Scott’s Hometown Foods tomorrow (Valentines Day), if you would like to get your hands on some. Look for it in the Swedish foods aisle. Also, if you’re in the Little River area tomorrow between 10am and 2pm, please stop in at Garden of Eden and Heavenly Meats and Groceries. I’ll be giving away drink samples and talking coffee with the fine folks of Little River.
Have a great and loving Valentines Day, 2009!
