It’s a Global Coffee Spill!

Coffee is the second most heavily traded commodity in the world after, you guessed it, oil.  An argument could be made that oil and coffee fuel our machines and our minds.

This amazing image, created by one of Sweden’s outstanding young photographic artists – Erik Johannson pretty sums it all up.

Check out some of his other amazing work here.

Coffee Fun at the Kansas Sampler Festival

If you’re looking for a great daytrip this weekend, head out to Leavenworth for the annual Kansas Sampler Festival.  Blacksmith Coffee Roastery will join a wonderful, diverse mix of Kansas producers, entrepreneurs and communities who will showcase the very best of what the Sunflower State has to offer.

This year’s event will happen on Saturday and Sunday at the Ray Miller Park in Leavenworth. Click here to see it on a map and get directions. If you’ve never been to a Sampler Festival, the best way to describe it is like the Kansas State Fair, but without the overpriced greasy food, carnival rides, loud obnoxious amusement vendors, and animals. Other than that it’s similar but better because it truly is about celebrating Kansas’ great communities, arts, entertainers, products and people!

What we’ll be doing at the Sampler Festival is giving away samples of Blacksmith Coffee and hopefully making some new acquaintances and enthusiasts of premium Kansas-roasted coffee. Additionally, we’ll have a drawing for a large gift basket of assorted coffees and an Aeropress brewer.

We’ll also be demonstrating the excellent brewing qualities of the Aeropress throughout the weekend.

Leavenworth is a beautiful and historic town on the Missouri River and the ideal place for this years Festival. If you happen to make it out, please come by the Blacksmith Coffee Roastery booth in the Mercantile Tent and enjoy a cup of coffee with us.

Hope to see you there!

New Brewing Equipment Arriving

As you know if you’ve been to Blacksmith Coffee Roastery, we have a lot unusual coffee brewing items that we use and sell.  Over the last couple weeks we’ve begun to receive shipments of some new merchandise that may be of interest to you if you’re into more traditional methods of brewing coffee.

Once we get things in place we’ll begin filming demonstrations and how-to info on these amazing coffee presses, pour-over funnels, hand mills and cold drip brewers from Hario Glass of Japan, Yama Glass, Bodum, Zassenhaus, Cona and others.

If you’re content with Mr. Coffee, these items may not capture your interest, but if you appreciate the art of artisan coffee brewing, you’ll be on Cloud 9.  Stay tuned.

Visit us at the Kansas Sampler Festival

Coming up on May 1st & 2nd, we will be attending the Kansas Sampler Festival in Leavenworth.  This is a great event for Kansas communities and companies to promote themselves and give attendees an opportunity to get a taste of all the best that Kansas has to offer!  It’s kind of like a miniature state fair without the rides, animals and ridiculous prices.  Just all the best that Kansas has to offer! We hope to see you there!
